This hospital saved my life almost a year ago as of may 20th of 2018 it will me one year and I will never forget it. I made a very dumb decision while not in the right headspace and swallowed two Disposable razor blades in an attempt to kill myself by bleeding out internally but my friends where I was at found out what I did told an adult who called an ambulance but by then it was a little too late. The first razor I had swallowed had cut my esophagus and stomach on the way down and I hadn’t felt it because I was so upset and when I swallowed the second one I was already bleeding internally and it cut me on the way down as well and again I never felt it. When the paramedics came they rushed me to Miriam Hospital where a CNA was Immediately told to sit with me because I was a suicidal person and I had just tried to kill myself so I was considered a suicide risk. The paramedics told them what I had done and instead of wasting time with the usual questions they got on the phone with a specialist in who could help extract the razors safely and carefully. They asked me if I had any stomach pain and I told them yes I did but no nausea. The specialist came and they prepped me for an endoscopy to safely remove the razors I started panicking because I couldn’t swallow the camera so they sedated me enough so they could wake me if they needed to. But then things turned for the worst after he got the razor out I started vomiting blood uncontrollably. So they made sure my airway was clear and went back in found the source of the bleeding and clipped it off with an esophageal clip, It was then I started having a hard time breathing so they gave me a med through my IV line to temporarily paralyze me so they could intubate me so I could breath and also so if I started bleeding again my airway was clear. I was woken up and started panicking and a nurse was at my side holding my hand and calming me down and talking me through it to let me know What had happened. I was transferred to ICU where I spent almost 1 week and then I was transferred down to a general surgical floor where I was for another 3-4 weeks. Afterwards I was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital Behavior Health Unit. And since that day I have not had another suicide attempt. Like I said Miriam Hospital saved my life in more ways than one. Thank you to all the nurses and doctors at Miriam Hospital in the ICU And ER and 3rd floor you guys changed my life. I am also happy to say I am now very close to my second month in college as a medical student going for my medical assistant and I couldn’t have done it without Miriam and my support system.
It's never a good time to go to a hospital, but the valet parking was great and took a lot of stress off visiting. And if I can just find a place to park myself, then that's just perfect too. :D
I have been to ER at Miriam twice in the last 2 years. The ER staff are top notch. Alyssa of ER 2 is particular noteworthy and a real gem. The entire staff is friendly, attentive, thorough, and cares. Nobody wants to be in the hospital, but if you find yourself in need of one, Miriam is a great option.
Fast, efficient and knowledgeable . I live closer to two other hospitals but choose to come here instead when needed.
The Drs. there save my life twice. God bless them. Everyone was great to me.
